Vintage Hagi Ware Seven-Piece Sake Set

A complete vintage Japanese Hagi ware sake set by Tenpōzan of Tsubaki Kiln, presented in its original inscribed wooden tomobako.

The seven-piece set comprises two sake bottles, or tokkuri, and five matching sake cups. Each vessel is finished in a softly luminous glaze that moves between blue-grey, warm ivory and delicate blush pink. Gentle throwing lines, glaze variation and fine crazing give every piece its own individual character.

Hagi ware has been produced in Yamaguchi Prefecture for centuries and is admired for its soft clay body, understated glazes and subtle changes in colour and texture that can develop through use.

The inscription on the wooden box reads “Hagi ware sake vessels” and “made by Tenpōzan.” Tenpōzan is associated with Tsubaki Kiln, although the individual potter responsible for this particular set has not been conclusively identified.

This set appears to be unused and is in excellent vintage condition. Please note that handmade Hagi ware naturally displays glaze crazing, tonal variation, firing marks and slight differences in form. These are characteristic of the making and firing process rather than faults.

As a vintage set, minor signs of age may also be present on the original wooden box. Please review all photographs carefully.
