Shino Ware Ikebana Vessel with Kenzan

An exceptional vintage Japanese ikebana vessel, hand-built in a bold architectural form and accompanied by its original kenzan.

The square body has been constructed with intentionally irregular panels, softened corners, and visible joins that celebrate the hand of the maker. The opening holds water and conceals the included kenzan, allowing flowers, branches, and greenery to emerge directly from this sculptural masterpiece.

Heavy and highly sculptural, the vessel has a presence even when displayed without flowers. This piece is reminiscent of Shino and other Mino-region pottery traditions. 

A potter’s mark appears on the underside, although the individual artist and kiln have not been conclusively identified. 

This is a vintage, one-of-a-kind object. Irregularities in its form, glaze, texture and firing are intrinsic to its handmade character and should not be considered faults. Please review all photographs carefully.
